There are a number of ways to argue that Discover® is the best credit card company. The easiest is to cite the fact that they have ranked second on J.D. Power's annual customer satisfaction survey for over four years and first in customer loyalty by the Brand Keys Customer Loyalty Engagement Index for the past 10 years. These are important consumer studies and Discover® is a perennial favorite. However, my position that Discover® is the best credit card company is based on the six years I have spent in the credit card industry.
During this time, close to a million people have visited my websites and more than twenty thousand people have left with Discover® credit cards. Of those people, I can use one hand and a few extra fingers to count the complaints. Such is not the case with any other credit card company.
In 2009, as the CARD Act was making its way into law, I received thousands of consumer complaints about just about every credit card company. Some of the biggest issuers of Visa and MasterCard offers logged hundreds of complaints. Discover® customers shared 4 complaints, none of which were serious. Because Discover® was the only credit card company that treated its customers well in the months leading up to the implementation of the CARD Act, I firmly believe they deserve praise for being a fair, ethical credit card company. And since the words fair and ethical are not commonly used to describe credit card companies, this is why I consider Discover® to be the best credit card company.
